Edward White 1/6th Plate Daguerreotype Portrait of Young Man with open Book

Handsome young man with a mischievous look sits for his portrait while holding an open book. This 1/6th plate daguerreotype has been professionally reglassed and archivally resealed with P-90 filmoplast tape. He is housed in a full sailboat case with the maker’s name “E. White” embossed in the sails.

E. White, Edward White was a daguerreotype photographer and plate manufacturer in New York City. His exact dates of activity are not known; however he is listed in the New York City business directory in 1843, ‘44 and ‘50 and his business was located at 175 Broadway. Edward White is one of the very early and significant daguerreotype artist. A very nice and rare example of his work.
