Press Photo of Scoville Browne Circa 1930’s Jazz Musician Photo 7 Piece Jazz Frank Driggs Photograph

Another Piece from the Baltimore Jazz Drummer and Music collector, John Brown, this one is Scoville Browne. It is not stated but almost all the images from this collection are images he got from Frank Driggs the RCA Music historian.
I have been working on a Jazz Photo collection from a Baltimore Md Jazz Drummer who passed in the 1970’s who was active playing drums in the 1950’s and later became a Jazz Concert Promoter in the late 196o’s. His name was John Brown.
The image appears to be a reprint from the 1960’s, not stated but most likely from the files of Frank Driggs.

Artist: Scoville “Toby” Browne (October 13, 1909, Atlanta – October 3, 1994)
Bio:
“Browne played in the late 1920s with Junie Cobb’s band and the Midnight Ramblers in Chicago; in 1931–32 he played saxophone and clarinet for Fred Avendorph. He worked with Louis Armstrong from 1933–35, and in the mid- and late 1930s with Jesse Stone, Jack Butler, Claude Hopkins, and Blanche Calloway. At the end of the decade he attended the Chicago College of Music. In the 1940s Browne played with Slim Gaillard, Fats Waller, Buddy Johnson, Hot Lips Page, and Eddie Heywood before serving in the U.S. military during World War II. Following his discharge he played with Hopkins again and with Buck Clayton.
Browne worked as a bandleader on and off in the 1950s, and also studied classical music. He played with Lionel Hampton and Muggsy Spanier late in the 1950s…”
The image does not state who the other musicians are but by the clothing appears to be circa 1930’s.
