Chaim Soutine (1983-1943 )was from now called Belarus then part of the Russian Empire. He lived and worked in Paris France, working in the early expressionist style. His early art was similar to his close friend, Amedeo Modigliani. Both artist sat for portraits for each other and shared similar styles. Soutine after WWI was represented by a well known art dealer, getting his art into hands of such prominent collectors as Albert Barnes, the American collector who wold create the Barnes Foundation.
According to an online site, after selling his art, Soutine moved quickly out Paris, Montmartre and moved to the French Riviera.
The 2 Volume Catalogue Raisonne is by Maurice Tuchman, Esti Dunow, Klaus Perls.

Condition: Both Volumes are in near perfect condition with clean and unaltered DJ, tight bindings and no damage to the pages or hardcover. Volume 2 has factory defect to back hardcover cloth wrapping, please see the image of this minor imperfection. Slipcase is very fine with back having a light wrinkle to the edge, pleas see the image of this area.
