Daguerreotype by Cooley's Gallery, a hand colored portrait of a man. Unknown sitter but a man of high distinction. His fashion is of the day, long sideburns and a well fitted and tailored suit.
Cooley's Gallery was owned and operated by Otis Hubbard Cooley (June 23, 1820 – November 18, 1860). His studio was in Springfield Massachusetts. Cooley'sStudio is famous for the portraits of poet Emily Dickinson and her sister Lavinia Norcross Dickinson.
The outside of the cases marked Cooley's, the mat is not marked
Size: Sixth Plate - 2.75 x 3.25 inches
Condition: very light white spotting to the glass. Very light tarnishing to the plate on the left and right side and very slightly on the bottom. The mat has light spot marks on the left side and the right side. The seals are intact on the back side of the Daguerreotype. Please see the images for more details
