From Private Estate, this oil on Canvas board, singed lower left Ennis with Salmagundi Club Thumb-box Exhibition label on reverse. Titled on the back in pencil top right, Canvas Board
George Pearse Ennis was an American artist who died in 1936. Part of the Federal Art Project and WPA, and was know for his coastal, urban landscapes and genre painting. As well as easel painter, Ennis did commissioned Stained Glass and “In New York Ennis opened his own school of painting and led a summer school at Eastport, Maine. He was fond of maritime subject matter and themes of fishermen at work. Ennis was a member of several artists’ social organizations and he served as president of the American Water Color Society (1930-36)”
Ennis died in a car crash in Utica New York in 1936.
