Richard DeVore 1970's Vessel Large Form Pottery Private Estate

Richard DeVore (1933 - 25 June 2006) was an American ceramicist that was born in Toledo, Ohio in 1933. He earned a B.Ed. degree with an art major from the University of Toledo in 1955, and received an M.F.A. from the Cranbrook Academy of Art in 1957.
In 1966 DeVore became head of the ceramics department at Cranbrook Academy of Art.
DeVore is known for simple, organic forms finished in dull glazes that suggest polished stones, sun bleached bones or even translucent skin.

A circa 1975 Richard DeVore Ceramic form. This form is at the height of the DeVore’s creative and most expressive point in his career.
The finish glaze with his immediate recognizable textured and continues repetitive glaz, the simple vessel form, starting with the perfect balanced base to the wide-open mouth, but the vessel has a movement; with the each move around it the piece has a rise and fall, much like the landscape.
