2 Silkscreens Numbered 2 /150 and Signed Gene Davis Series II Silkscreen Box for Folio Silkscreen Cloth Over Board 1969
Gene Davis, born in Washington DC in 1920 and died in 1985. Davis is considered on the key and pivotal figures of the Washington Color School, his art differed from others, Davis used powerful hard edge equal width bands in his later paintings. These are what the artist is known for and shows a major maturity in his paintings when compared to his earlier works.
The Series II was done in 1969, in an edition of 150 with 25 being artist proofs. This one is 2/150 and is Pen Signed as issued.
The portfolio was special, the box that I have for sale here, was a screen print on canvas and laminated on board.
Inside the portfolio was three 76cm x 51cm and three 61cm x 76cm silkscreens, the white board was the separator and is original to the portfolio box.
Published by Petersburg Press London and screen printed by Hans Peter Haas in Stuttgart and the portfolio was by Rudolf Rieser in Cologne
The Top and Bottom of the box are works of Art, either hung next to each other or spread out, these silkscreens are a genuine Gene Davis and Signed and numbered by the artist.
The top has a hinged side to open the box and inside of top has Title of the portfolio. The bottom box has the artist signature in Pen with hand numbered edition, 2/150
