20th Century Feather Ceremonial Headdress From South America Brazil Waura Tribe Mato Grosso State
A beautiful example of a Brazilian ceremonial headdress from the Waura tribe (Xingu Indigenous Reserve, Mato Grosso State, Brazil).
The Waura tribe are Aruak speakers, who live in the region near the Upper Xingu River and sadly had a population of 487 in 2010.
This piece was brought back from a collector in the 1980's and have the gallery label intact on the back of the glass fronted shadow box.
The feathers and roping are in near perfect condition. The colors on the feathers are bold and vibrant. As stated on the label, Peca (part of): Japu bird
Made on the Xingu Indigenous Park.
The frame is approx. 17 x 23 1/2
The Headdress is approx. 15 x 19
