Ambrotype of Masonic Man with Apron Mechanic and Farmer Freemason Painted Backdrop Circa 1870

The Masonic Order of Mechanic and Farmer started in early 1800's, a branch of the Masons that were predominately wealthy businessmen, a lot of these lodges grew into actual working Banks. The images is not dated or identified but this photo collection was from a collector in Baltimore who acquired most of his collection in the 1970's and many images were from Western Maryland region. This information has led me to the history of Frederick Maryland and the early Farmer and Mechanic Lodge. According to the Lodge history.."Freemasonry was first introduced in Frederick County prior to the American Revolution. The first known lodge in Frederick County met in a residence on the farm of William Downey near New Market, Maryland prior to the year 1776. Columbia Lodge #58 was chartered by the Grand Lodge of Maryland on November 7, 1815. Masons met on December 8, 1815 at the house of James Houston located on the Southeast corner of Market and Second Streets. Later, this was the location of the Farmer’s and Mechanic’s National Bank, which has since closed."

The images is a Mason in his apron and his very decorated collar. The apron has "Farmers & Mechanics Lodge" on the front which he prominently shows off. No lodge number or location but again very possible a Maryland collection due to this person's photo collection.
There is a very nice painted backdrop, and the man sits with his white gloves and his hand rests on a book, most likely a masonic book.  

Size: Sixth Plate - 2.75 x 3.25 inches.
Condition: The image is in very good condition with very crips details and sharpness to the image. The case is missing the lid. Very light soiling to the brass mat. Please see the images for more details
