Arts and Crafts Tile Grueby Epos 6 x 6 Circa 1920's
The Arts and Crafts Movement produced and brought out numerous gifted artist.
The Style incorporated the Neoclassical movement with the imagery of Greek and Roman Myth as well as processes used during antiquity.
This resurgence and focus of styles and process mixed the modern commerce of the times, gave a lot of these artist attention. The arts and Crafts movement focused on the art of the craftsmen. So showing the process was part of the rejection of machine age world these artist were living in.
One example was in pottery, these small but prolific companies such as Grueby were doing decorative arts, Tiles, Pottery and their artist were skilled in many areas.
Sturgis Antiques has always looked for Arts and Crafts, it is one of my favorite movements.
Here is a wonderful Grueby Pottery Company Tile.
The tile titled Epos and has a bow yielding Angle.
Epos is a number of poems that treat an epic theme but are not formally united
Size: 6 x 6
Condition: Fine with no chips. The pieces was mounted into a wall at some point, grout and cement are present. Please see images for details.
