Attributed Wolfgang Hoffmann Art Deco Industrial Design Chrome Side Table By Howell Co. Circa 1930s
Wolfgang Hoffman was the son the highly influential Viennese architect and artist Josef Hoffmann. His son, Wolfgang (1900-1969) followed and also created his own path of industrial design furniture and worked with The Howell Co from 1934-1942, he….“worked exclusively for Howell, designing a wide variety of stylish yet affordable chromium-plated tubular steel furniture for the home and helping commercial clients with their business interiors. Hoffmann was granted at least 29 furniture design patents, all assigned to the Howell Company. When the factory converted to wartime production in 1942 during World War II, Hoffmann left the company and opened Wolfmann Studio in Geneva, where he pursued a successful career as a commercial and industrial photographer until his death in 1969.”
The Howell Co started in the late 1800’s but their introduction of “seamless chrome plated tubular steel, which they termed "Chromsteel" in 1929, gave them the edge to produce and showcase this new maintain in Industrial Design and manufacturing.
In 1934 at the Chicago's Century of Progress Exposition, they hired Wolfgang Hoffmann to design furniture for the company’s “Model House”.
The Wolfgang Hoffmann Streamline Chrome Side Table for Howell co. is the iconic Art Deco Industrial Design, it is what you think of when you think of that era’s furniture design. The Chrome tube still legs, the small base with wide top giving the table the air yet stability of the furniture. The Top is a black thin laminate inset into the table top.

No black laminate top but same style and construction, this one has a small ball between the three legs.
I have not cleaned or altered the table. I wanted to keep the original integrity of the table, for the purists.
Please see the images of the table to get a visual and of its amazing potential.
Size: 20" wide x 18 1/2" tall
Condition: The chrome is fine, it has not bee cleaned or altered and will need to polished but major structural or damage to this almost 100 year old table.
