Circa Early 1900s Industrial Design Book Stand Iron and Wood Adjustable with Lower Shelf
Every few years another one of these great turn of the century book stands comes to me. These stands would hold what was so important to people, a dictionary. When a dictionary was the largest book, next to a bible, in your house you needed something to display these large and massive tombs.
Now they work so well for the massive Art Book you want to display in your house.
The legs are Iron legs with early rubber wheels, this one has the original wheels but they are chipped and worn.
The book holder, has adjustable height and angle to view the book with the option to close the book up, showing the metal fixtures of the stand. The book is held in place closed with a spring and has a small thumb release to open the book back up.
The wood is a fine and finished pine wood, one panel has a separation but the wood is still secure.
What separates this one from others is the wood shelf under the stand, a great place to keep your glasses or other smaller books.
Size: 18 1/2 wide by 38 1/2 tall. The stand can be lowered and can be raised slightly higher than what is photographed here.
Condition: the wheels have chipping but are intact and the stand is still very stable. One panel has a separation but is not in any danger of collapsing. No breaks to the iron. Please see the images for more details.
