Circa Mid Century Era Dogon Stargazer Bronze Mali West Africa Giacometti Style African Statue

‘Stargazer’ figure by the Dogon people from Mali, West Africa. These amazing figures and statues have movement and style reminiscent of Giacometti, with the elongated figures, almost caught in a spiritual journey of transcendence. These figures are a concept of the 'other' side to the existence, typical are the thin and long figures representing the movement and spiritual side of human existence. The striving figure reaches up to the stars, giving oneself and almost wanting to be taken buy the heavens.
You can the amazing similarities to the surrealist artist, Giacometti, some say that his inspiration is almost to striking to this culture's art but the homage to the 'primitive' art goes back to the the first modern show in America, the 1913 Armory Show. The show had Picasso, Duchamp, Marin and other early modernist on display next to African masks and totems.
This strikingly elongated, elegant figure is looking skyward with the arms raised towards the heavens.
A nice aged Patina, circa 1960's.
