Title: La sortie du bain (Leaving the Bath)
From the Princeton Univeristy Art Museum..”Although best known as a painter, Degas was also a highly inventive printmaker. His obsessive experimentation with printing processes, tools, and materials is exemplified in this rare impression. To produce the subtle gray tonalities, Degas scratched lines directly into a copper plate with a needle and abraded the surface with a carbon rod. Drawn entirely from the artist’s imagination, this small image captures his fascination with the awkward beauty of women bathing.”
