French Daguerreotype Barthelemy Thalamas Active 1850-1860 Priest in Chasuble Holding Book in Original Frame and Label
French Daguerreotype Barthelemy Thalamas who was active from 1850-1860.
The sitter appears to be priest with rustic and old chasuble robe and holding a book.
Barthelemy Thalamas was active in Toluse
The back label which is chipped and aged appears to be for the Department of Interior and is stamped approved for the exposition. The years that corresponds with the artist's activity would be the Universal Exposition of 1855 of Paris.
The frame is original and is untouched or altered, another example of the photographers work is in the Musee d'Orsay and the image has the same style of frame. The daguerrotype is mated with a faux tortoise.
Size: image is approx. 2 3/4" x 3 1/2" and the frame is approx. 9 1/2" x 8"
Condition: the image has faded and has light marks and oxidation to the top and bottom of the image. The hand tinting is still very clear. The Frame has wear and cracks to the plaster. The top right are of the frame is missing a small portion. The back label is worn and has chipping. The image is held in place with three nales and is open and allowing air to get to the daguerrotype. Please see the images for more details.
