George Grosz 30 Drawings and Watercolors Published by Erich Herrmann 1944 Spiral Bound Edition
The rare George Grosz 30 Drawings and Watercolors Published by Erich Herrmann Spiral Bound Edition
Published by Erich S. Herrmann in New York
Year: 1944
The rarely seen spiral bound edition of George Grosz. The images were picked to showcase the biting and very satirical humor of the artist. Every page is better than the next and the surprise of the colored plates, the one with the nude that has the hint of color allows the image to have a depth that some of the more character type sketches of the German' life during WWI.
George Grosz was part of the first wave of the Dada Movement who's focus to to show that if the world could be absurd then so could the artist. You can see the mock and biting sarcasm of the drawings.
The simple juxtaposition of the Laid Off in 1923, the rich man stands aloof while the sick and poor man almost begs to have some type of respect of humanity. Or the perverse of the The Uncle, he stands and watches the young woman as she bathes. Creepy but this sort of debauchery did happen in post WWI Germany. The decline of the Weimar was a major hot bed of decadence.
