Hampshire Pottery Vase Mottled Blue Green Matte Glaze Circa 1905 Cadmon Robertson Emoretta
A Hampshire Pottery Vase Mottled Blue Green Matte Glaze
Marked on the bottom Hampshire Pottery with 40 and Mark of M in Circle.
Blue Green matte / mat glaze with a mottled drip glaze around the neck.
Raised marks underfoot: Hampshire Pottery 40 and with an M within a circle, M is said to be a tribute from Cadmon Robertson to his wife Emoretta. Robertson joined Hampshire Pottery in 1904.
Year: Circa 1905
Size: Measures 5-1/8" diameter, 4" high
Condition: Fine with no cracks or chips that I have seen. Minor soiling to the glaze, I have not cleaned or altered this piece from my client's estate. Small White marks towards the top of the mouth and one white small line on the shoulder of the pot. Bio of Hampshire Pottery Co.:
"Hampshire Pottery began production in 1871. The pottery was founded by James Taft. Hampshire Pottery first introduced the widely popular matte green glaze in 1883. In 1904 Cadmon Robertson joined Hampshire Pottery and was soon placed in charge of production. Robertson developed over 900 glazes while with Hampshire Pottery and was responsible for many of the forms.
Robertson passed away in 1914 which left Hampshire solely in the hands of Taft. Just after Robertson’s death, Taft determined to cease production. In 1916 Taft sold Hampshire Pottery to George Morton who was previously with Grueby Pottery.
Hampshire pottery continued for only a year under Morton’s direction and was closed in 1917."
