Isadora Duncan Signed Photograph Dated 1914 Paris Dedicated to Famed Signer Namara
This a fantastic signed 1914 Isadora Duncan photograph dedicated to Namara (the famed signer who worked with Isadora Duncan). The Photograph is printed by the Italian photographer, Studio Bonaventura with the full-embossed stamp located in the lower left side of the photograph. The photograph is approx. 9” high x 3 3/4” wide. There are two small pinholes, one on the top and the other at the bottom. The estate has had this item for many years, approx 20 years. So any wear or damage has been done before their ownership. The signature and dedication have not appeared to fade or have any damage to them, but there is a very slight amount of fade to the over all photograph. This is due to the photographic process during the early to mid 1900’s. The image has been stored away from direct sunlight. This image comes to Studio Bonaventura as a snapshot of Isadora Duncan and where handled as a press or publicity photograph for her. The image is of here in a white Greek style Tunic. Being signed in 1914 and in Paris is the time of her Dance Studio that was made famous by Rodan sketching her and her “Isadorables”. These images are now iconic for Rodan and also for Isadora Duncan. Studio Bonaventura logo is done in a Secessionist/ Arts and Crafts Style lettering. As you can see from the photograph, the Studio is located on “Via Tomacelli 452 Roma”. The photographer was a well-established photographer who mostly used the Gum Bicarbonate style of photo emulsion technique, but this is another process. A great essay about this studio and artist is in the 1915 The Photographic Journal of America, Edited by Thomas Coke Watkins.
