Josef Rudolf Witzel’s (1867-1924) amazing cover for the German Arts magazine, Deutsche Kunst und Dekoration (German Art and Decoration)
“Les Maitres De L’Affiche” (The Masters of the Poster) published 256 full color stone litho plates of the best posters from the turn of the century. These small posters were distributed between 1895 and 1900.
“Jules Cheret's printing company started the poster of the month club. Subscribers received 4 posters each month (one always being by Cheret himself) and a bonus four for those who subscribed for the next year. It was a very popular series that ran for five years.”
Each plate were created using the stone litho process, the same process the original posters were done in. The corners have the blind stamp of the Maitres de l’Affiche.
Each image is 11 1/2 x 15 3/4 inches
Condition: light chips at the top edges which does not affect the image. A small bump on the bottom in the writing, please see images for details. A small tear on bottom.
