Late 1800s Plains Tribe Native American Beaded Hat Band Sioux or Lakota Indian Tribe
Circa last quarter of the 1800s Plains Tribe Native American Beaded Hat Band
The Plains Tribes of North America are known for their bead work, their work often associated with everyday life objects.
During the last quarter of the 19th c., referred to as Reservation Period, the work changed from quill beads to what people called Pony Beads, colorful and rounded with holes, these beads brought on horse "pony" became the prominent material.
This late 19th C. Hat Band appears to Sioux Nation or possible Lakota Nation
The tanned skin is soft and fine, most likely deer skin, has hand stitched and threaded beads. The end has the original silk cord that would tie through the hole to secure onto a hat.
Size: 20" long
Condition: very good with a few hangin threads but no loss of beads. The leather hide, deer skin is still and is no longer soft and will need to be conditioned. I have not altered this piece in any way. Please see the images for more details.
