George III was a style that had the simple elegance that has remained a classic for a long period of time. In this George III style large Lap Desk you can see the influence of this time periods innovations.
This late 1800’s large mahogany lap desk stands out with its lovely grained wood and it’s impressive size yet simple designed hardware. The overall condition of the lap desk is excellent except for minor issues. There are two areas where the wood has split. I will show detail of these areas with the photographs.
The inside leather has been professionally replaced with the same care and attention to detail as the original. The lap desk is missing the wood pen cover and there are no glass inkwells.
The hinges appear to be hand cut brass and the handles and latch are also brass. The box closed is approx. 20 3/4” long x 10 1/2” deep x 7 1/4” high. When the desk is open the box is approx. 21” long x 20 3/4” wide. This lap desk is very impressive and has a stately look that will be a fine addition to your collection or just a lovely accent piece for your house.
