Miles Davis Saturday Feb 10 Pease Auditorium (1973) Poster
Art by Gary Grimshaw
(February 25, 1946 – January 13, 2014), Grimshaw did posters for Detroit and San Fransisco venues. His posters are one of best designed one and his involvement with the Detroit area White Panther Party, along with John Sinclair and the MC5 elevates him. A artist doing art to make a statement and as protest understand why poster art is important and understand how to grad your attention.
Along with other radicals of the era, the jazz movement was an important part of elevating rock music. Look at the MC5 and their Sun Ra cover, The Stooges venture into cosmic "jazz" inspired jam on their first album.
This poster of Miles, in 1973 was a time when he was traveling and play shows. It would be only three years prior that he released his 1970 masterpiece, Bitches Brew which moved Jazz into a new era and also moved Jazz into inspiration for rock music.
The image is what people will always remember as Miles Davis pose. A beautiful poster and in very rare near perfect condition.
