Original Press Photo of Unknown Soul R&B Band Circa 1960 Xciters
When you come across unknown musicians you get excited and at the same time a bit sad. Only sad because you can experience the sound of a group of people who got together to play music. Groups start off and die but the early years of music, was opposed to now, was there were not that many people doing it. Yes, the rock explosion of Elvis and The Beatles gave rise to music but the entertainment pool for African American musicians was small. Most people dreamed or only did part time or dipped their toes in the water, most people couldn't afford to be musicians. So yeah when I see a group of people who tried, I get sad.
Here is a group, written on the back "Xciters" has four members and most likely a instrumental band or is the man at the bottom left the singer? He does hold his hands like he is playing something but the photo doesn't tell us more.
The back is labeled Xciters and there are a few with that spelling and but none are this band.
Take a minute to look and enjoy the image and admire this unknown band.
