Original Mark Tobey Signed and Numbered Lithograph Scroll of Liberty 1973
Mark George Tobey (December 11, 1890 – April 24, 1976) was an American abstract expressionist painter, born in Centerville, Wisconsin.
Mark Tobey worked mostly out west in Seattle and was of the founding members of the Northwest School. According to internet search, "Tobey, whose artwork did not include as much natural Northwest subject matter, is identified as Northwest style because of the soft pastel colors which he used, and the dark mist chroma of lighting, with few stark shadows".
In this piece, The Scroll of Liberty, 1973 Tobey has moved into a direction of pure abstraction but still in control of the pastel color palette of his earlier career.
In 1974 Tobey showed a portfolio of 3 original etchings and 3 original lithographs and was published by Transworld Art, 1974 and the show was "Homage to Tobey" on the occasion of his Smithsonian Retrospective Exhibition June- Sept. 1974.
I will include the catalog pub. by Transworldart Corp. titled " Mark Tobey Etchings & Lithographs December 1973-December 1975.
