Ruby Ambrotype of Woman with Hand Tinting Ninth Plate
The Ruby Ambrotype.."The “ruby ambrotype” is printed onto a dark glass support that is red when viewed in transmitted light. This technique doesn’t require additional backings." Unlike traditional ambrotypes, the back of the glass was painted or a dark material was used.
The sitter is young woman, she wears her jewelry proudly and the photographer hand tinted to show off the gold jewelry. This was typically done on early photographs.
Size: Ninth Plate size 2 x 2/12 inches
Condition: the plate has marks and the lid of the case is missing. Light wear overall. Please see the images for more details.
