Sixth Plate Daguerreotype of Woman Holding Glasses Circa 1850 Attributed Sitter Pfieffer
Sixth Plate Daguerreotype of Woman Holding Glasses. Noted on the back that the photo is of "his mother" on "her wedding day". There are a few dates. 1847 and 1848 are both scratched out but 1850 is not. The image is attributed to "his mother" Mrs. Pfieffer ( my best translation). Pfieffer is a name of course in N. Carolina, associated with the college. The woman does have some means, of course she has glasses and it is an early dag, not a lot of people could afford both.
The image is hand tinted and is an exceptional clarity, very fine details come through on her hands and clothes and of course you can easily make out her glasses. A very fine image.
There is no case with this image, only the top lid.
Size: Sixth Plate
Condition: the image is very fine with light tarish to the edges next to the mat. The original seals are gone and the brass mat is in very good condition. Please see the images for more details.
