Univeristy of Chicago Stained Glass Crest, circa Early 1900's with Henry Hope and Sons Casement
This piece and other that I will mark in the description are all coming from a Magnificent estate near Havre de Grace. If you have any question or wish to see more from this large estate please contact me.
An early 1900's University of Chicago stained glass Crest in a Henry Hope and Sons Bronze Casement. This Neo Gothic style meets with style of either the Rockefeller Chapel, the Snell-Hitchcock dormitory or one of the many Neo Gothic Style Architectural buildings on the University Campus.
University of Chicago was founded and funded by oil man, John D. Rockefeller around 1890. This early stained glass has the University Moto, Crescat scientia; vita excolatur which translate to "Let knowledge grow from more to more; and so be human life enriched".
The bronze casement is from the famed Birmingham Metal co. Henry Hope and Sons. Henry Hope and Sons (1818-1958) made architectural metal frames for house, churches and buildings. In 1925 the company, who had long exported to the North American market, acquired the International Casement Company, Jamestown, New York that became Hopes Windows Inc., in 1930.
The size of the casement is approx. 15 1/2" x 25" and the glass is approx. 12" x 21".
