Wiener Werkstatte Hand Printed Paper From Austrian Bookbinder circa 1910 Full Sheet Hand Made Paper
Circa first quarter of the 1900's Wiener Werkstatte hand printed paper from an Austrian Bookbinder.
My client's family originally from Austria, came to the US at the very start of the WWII and like the fortunate people of Austria and German and other countries terrroiezed by the rise of Hitler and the Nazi party, people brought their lives and trade with them.
My client had family in the Austria and they brought some of their family's trade, printed book binding paper along with some books with the books wrapped in the printed paper.
Wiener Werkstatte drew inspiration from the late 1800's movement of Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau as well as inspiration from "traditional folk art, and forecasted the flowering of Art Deco and the International Style in the interwar period."
The movement was established in 1903 by the "graphic designer and painter Koloman Moser, the architect Josef Hoffmann and the patron Fritz Waerndorfer, was a productive association in Vienna, Austria that brought together architects, artists, designers and artisans working in ceramics, fashion, silver, furniture and the graphic arts." The Movement would end at the very beginning of the 1930's.
The paper is hand printed woodblock style. The paper is hand made with no watermarks.
SIZE: 27 x 19 inches
