Wooden Case Carnival Circus Game 19th Early 20th C. Roulette Wheel Game Folk Art

Circa very early 1900’s, this vernacular game of chance wheel from a traveling carnival or small circus.
My client comes from New Orleans and was bought in the 1940’s-1950’s in Southern Gulf States, as the family recalls. 

These games of chances would be seen traveling carnivals or small local circuses, used for entertainment. Note the wheel is fixed in a box and the originally the box had a hinged lid, and would latch and close on the right side. The top eye hook was used to hang the game.
Having a lid leads to believe this was used in a traveling, close it up and go.
The top dome head screw and other materials lean to about the early 1900’s.

The game of chance was a numbered wheel with pins and a top tongue of hard leather. As you can see in the video, the wheel spins freely.
The numbers and the spokes are hand painted. The numbers go up to 48

Size: Box- 16 x 15 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches 
         Wheel 13” diam.
